The Brief:

The original house had been extended through the addition of a conventional conservatory. Cold in winter, hot in summer, it was basically unusable and a real shame given the views of the garden and south-easterly aspect. We were tasked with transforming this space.

The Architectural Design & Structural Engineering:

The challenge was supporting the stepped first floor elevation whilst maintaining large open areas below. Carefully working through the design with our client resulted in a room fitted out as desired, with all steelwork kept out of sight either in the roof or ceiling voids or hidden in walls. The room was completely transformed, with a feeling of height and space on entering the kitchen. Three sets of bi-fold doors complemented this, letting in further light and providing in-and-out living and fabulous views year round.
The Result:

This transformative design has resulted in a spacious and contemporary open plan room, which the occupants enjoy in comfort all year round. It is now the room to be in, not to avoid.
