FROM
COWSHED
TO CONTEMPORARY HOME

KENT

The Brief:

BetterLivingSpace collaborated with MiU Design to convert this 18th-century Grade II listed oak-framed cowshed, to create a unique, light-filled home, with idyllic views over an expansive paddock.

The Structural Engineering:

BetterLivingSpace carried out all the structural engineering work involved in this stunning conversion. This involved a complete structural redesign, providing an entirely new frame for the building. We were mindful to ensure that the new structural frame allowed for full showcasing of the design features, which had been carefully retained from the original cowshed. A large oak tree, situated in close proximity to the property, and the clay soil presented some challenges for the foundation work, which was tapered.

After adding new wood cladding and modern Crittall-style windows, the renovated property is able to enjoy a wonderful new lease of life.

The Result:

A striking contemporary home, set back from the road behind its own pond with an array of wildlife, and with parking for several cars.
