The Brief/ Background
In this instance we were tasked with designing a Wrap around steel clad portal frame structure to increase the storage at an old RAF Base, RAF Sopley. This site underwent much modernisation during the 1950s including a new guardhouse providing access to a two-storey underground operations centre, and is now being given a new lease on life yet again.

The Architectural Design & Structural Engineering
This client needed our help in creating a Steel frame and steel clad portal structure with a new reinforced concrete base slab positioned directly above the tunnel to the underground base. We utilized the existing building to support the new structure thereby reducing the number of columns and the impact on the tunnel below.

The Result
A solid new structure for the client to use as needed, making this historic site usable again.
