Generally speaking, a home build or redesign can be divided into five stages:
Structural (Building Control)
Here we look at the first stage, the design process.
Stage 1: How the Right Design Ensures a Perfect Build
A great design is critical to project success. Get the design wrong and your build will, at best, be flawed and, at worst, cost you a lot more than you bargained for trying to put it right.
It is usually worth engaging a professional designer, if only to cast an expert eye over your own designs and floor plans! While it can be tempting to try to cut back on perceived extra costs, a good architectural designer will bring knowledge, experience, ideas and imagination to your project. They will also be able to advise on where costs can be saved and where work is absolutely necessary. In the long run they can often end up saving you more money than they cost to hire. If there is structural work involved then, by law, you will need to engage a structural engineer to approve the structural design calculations.
Here at BetterLivingSpace, we work carefully on getting the design phase absolutely right to ensure designs that are tailored for our clients’ needs, aspirations and budget.
Our architectural designer is also a structural engineer, so fully understands all the underlying elements and the full cycle of the design process. We strive to ensure that our clients acquire an in-depth knowledge of exactly how their home is designed and have understood and considered all the various build options available to them.
Above all, we do not set a specific amount of time for the design phase; but will only progress to the next stage once each client is absolutely satisfied that the floor plans are perfect.
